MANAGED BACKUP SERVICES

CHALLENGE

When this Baltimore-based non-profit organization began its partnership with Niction Tech, significant troubleshooting was needed for an on-site server. Remote users were encountering connection issues and as a result, configuration support became a high priority. Additionally, the organization wanted to improve the reliability and security of their database while still maintaining primary control of its internal infrastructure. “Our selection of Niction Tech was in part a result of their approach to solutions having an appropriate return in investment,” said the organization’s MD. “They approached the project like a business partner (rather than sales) and engaged us in conversation to get to the best solution.”

SOLUTION

To address the organization’s issues, Niction Tech first upgraded their server with proactive managed backup services to improve the reliability and availability of their data. Internet circuits were then provided to enhance the stability of remote server connections. Ultimately, Niction Tech assisted with the construction and maintenance of their on-site servers offering design assistance and help in resolving server matters that the organization had difficulty undertaking on their own.

TECHNICALLY SPEAKING

Although the organization maintains its on-site network server, they receive configuration assistance from Niction Tech with respect to their switches, wide area network (WAN), and virtual private network (VPN). Their server was upgraded from a 2003 to a 2008 R2 Citrix server while the network continues to be updated on an “as needed” basis. Furthermore, Niction Tech helps troubleshoot any server issues that arise and provides proactive managed IT backup services. As a managed backup customer, the organization receives state-of-the art data de-duplication, application health monitoring, backups and restore of SQL and Exchange, as well as block level snapshots with incremental data capture.

RESULTS:

With an upgraded on-site server and new Internet circuits, the organization has consistent access to their data center when and wherever they need it. Furthermore, Niction Tech’ managed backup services offer the foundation a sense of security if something should ever go wrong. This peace of mind allows the organization to focus more time and energy on researching preventions, treatments, and cures for those affected by retinal degenerative diseases, and less effort managing and backing up data. With aging and worn out hardware, slow servers, and inconsistent IT support, this Baltimore-based non-profit organization was in need of Niction Tech assistance. They were concerned about the security of their data and wanted to incorporate reliable servers, network protection and disaster recovery into their IT infrastructure.

SOLUTION

The organization employed Niction Tech Managed Network Services to address and resolve their IT difficulties. Niction Tech developed a custom-tailored hosted server environment that delivered data security, reliability, and scalability to meet the organization’s ever-growing information technology needs. To prepare for this new solution, the client opted for a hosted server solution in the Niction Tech virtual Data Center. This allowed them to enjoy a climate controlled environment and protect their data from hardware, internet, and power failures. In addition to receiving automatic software/hardware upgrades, the organization also gained a 24×7 IT support team. TECHNICALLY SPEAKING

When Niction Tech migrated the organization to the Niction Tech Virtual Environment, they were provided with a cutting-edge, multi-user aware Citrix server. This machine provides each person who accesses the server and database with their own session, which allows for optimal performance. Niction Tech data center is powered by an APC Symmetra UPS and is backed up by a diesel generator. To increase data security, communication redundancy is employed with multiple providers and SONET Technology, as well as a Domain Name System (DNS) reinforced by two redundant servers running BIND. A Liberty cooling system is also utilized to provide climate control for the servers.
